Are you thinking about undertaking Shamanic Healing as a therapy?  Shamanic healing specialists believe that they are able to utilise the energy of the world and the spiritual realm to help people heal from emotional difficulties. We at Seek a Therapy want to help answer your questions and concerns surrounding shamanic in order to help you select the right practitioner for you and on this page we have included some of the most common questions a person may have before attending their first session.

What Is Shamanic Healing?

When it comes to shamanic healing, the shaman essentially works in tandem with spirits, often called ‘helper spirits’, in the spiritual realms. They will ‘summon’ these spirits to repair a soul, who may then experience real, physical healing in the earth realm. In order to contact these spirits, the shaman will have to go on a journey by entering a trance state. The more practice and training a shaman has, the easier it will be for them to enter this powerful state.

Centre Of Excellence

Shamanic practitioners are therapists that are believed to use systems of consciousness to support healing, growth and transformation in their clients. When you utilise a shaman they usually enter an altered state of consciousness through the use of music and dancing and occasionally hallucinogenic medicine to help them enter an altered state of consciousness.

However, this is not always the case. Some shaman healing therapists have also trained themselves to utilise many ways to discern what information can be obtained through subtle energy systems.

Shamanic healers believe there are many reasons why people feel dis-ease within themselves. Some common reasons that people seek the support of a shaman can include obtaining more energy and freedom. Finding clarity around inner difficulties related to depression or anxiety. Improving self-esteem. Or seeking some inner direction.

What to Expect From Shamanic Healing

When you attend shamanic healing there is often a sacred and comfortable space where you and your therapist can discuss your issues of concern. Care is taken to establish what the focus of your intent is from attending therapy.

Often, you will be asked to join in a short meditation and then asked to lay on a couch with your eyes closed attending to your own inner experiences and feelings. The shaman then looks for energy fields that are disrupted or blocked.

Time is then set aside at the end to process what each of you has experienced during the therapy and what information has been gained. Discussing your experiences allows for deeper transformation to emerge.

It is believed that a shift in your body is felt almost immediately but there are other changes that will continue to have their effect on the body and mind over time.

A shamanic healer may also recommend making notes in a journal, reflecting on dreams and paying attention to your general outlook and mood.

Benefits of Shamanic Healing

How Much Does A Typical Shamanic Therapy Cost?

A Shamanic practitioner ( and we have several in our directory in the UK, USA, Europe and Asia) cost can vary and can range from £60/$80 per session and sometimes can go upwards of £150/$200. It can occasionally be more depending upon the status and experience of the therapy, speciality and location. Each session should last between 60 and 150 minutes depending upon the therapist’s processes.

How Do I Know Which Shamanic Therapy Specialist To Choose?

It is probably important to recognise that the Shamanic healing therapist you select must make you feel comfortable. You are going to have to develop a relationship of trust and support for effective practice and share your insights from your experiences of shamanic healing.

When you find the right therapist that offers you good communication, a partnership, trust, goals and a feeling of genuine understanding then together, over time, you will be able to create a relaxing and open atmosphere. This will help you reap the benefits of the therapy.

It is also recommended, if it is possible, to try and find reviews from previous happy customers.

How Long Does It Take To Notice A Difference When Using Shamanic Healing?

The thing with shamanism as a healing practice is that it is a very, very individual process. The shaman doesn’t do the work of healing. They start the process, and the client finishes it. As with all forms of healing, the desire to heal is paramount and dictates more than anything the end result. Sometimes results can be quite quick, for others, depending on the needs of the person, has known to take as long as a year.

What If It Doesn’t Work For Me?

First of all, don’t worry!

If you think having shamanic healing therapy is the right therapy but you have the wrong professional then you have every right to seek a second opinion and you will not offend your practitioner, they just want you to improve your health and you deserve to feel well. If, on the other hand, you don’t feel Shamanic Healing is not working at all then do not be disheartened, there are many, many different types of therapy that can help and personal training is only one. Use our therapy directory to find a different therapy, you may find hypnotherapy works better or possibly some holistic treatment. The key is not to think this is your only option.
